Reading in Chicago at Bookends & Beginnings (Evanston), June 24th

Chicago-area friends, I'll be in your neck of the woods June 24th, and I'll be reading at the fabulous Bookends & Beginnings in Evanston. This is THE store leading a class-action lawsuit against Amazon on behalf of independent booksellers everywhere, so I'm proud to read in their space.

I will be joined by RHINO editors Meghan Malachi and Elizabeth O'Connell-Thompson.

Meghan Malachi is a Black Puerto Rican poet from the South Bronx, first-place winner of the Spoon River Poetry Review 2022 Editor's Prize Contest and a 2022 Pushcart Prize Nominee. Her work is published or forthcoming in Milly Magazine, Rabid Oak, NECTAR Poetry, Pages Penned in Pandemic, giallo lit, and Writers With Attitude. Her first chapbook, The Autodidact, was published by Ethel Zine and Micro Press.

Elizabeth O’Connell-Thompson is the author of the chapbook Honorable Mention (dancing girl press, 2017), and holds an MA in English Studies from Trinity College Dublin. Her work has been published in Banshee, Entropy, Iron Horse Literary Review, and Poetry Ireland Review, among others. She cohosts the RHINO Reads series with Naoko Fujimoto.

I hope to see you there!

The new Animal Issue of CV2 Magazine

Today is the official launch day for CV2 Magazine's all new Animal Issue. They asked contributors to the issue to make videos to celebrate the launch, so here's the video I made.

Eat the rich!

I have updated my old no-frills poster with Pierre Gaspard Chaumette's infamous invocation of Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

New wererabbit album: Sound Emanating from a Glowing Cube

Hi friends!

More sounds from an alternate timeline: this album is the story of three unexplained objects — a glowing cube; a cold, dark sphere; and a floating pyramid — my homage to the monolith in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I hope you enjoy Sounds Emanating from a Glowing Cube!

On today's episode of her podcast Ms Lyric's Poetry Outlaws, Catherine Owen talks about The Resistance to Poetry by James Longenbach, and she reads my poem "Becoming Beautiful" from my book Shared Universe.

Murmurations, pixelations, static and Brownian motion...

Visually, I'm exploring the "randomness" of digital display errors/static and how they mirror the "randomness" of natural patterns somewhere between chaos and synchrony: starling murmurations, Brownian motion, etc.

Further exploration: Can murmurations be "read" as a form of asemic writing?

Can pixelations or static?

New wererabbit album VIR

January 14, 2023:
I've been feeling under the weather, so I stayed home sick from work and finished this album. More than ever, I have tried to adhere to Eno's statement (from the liner notes to Ambient 1: Music for Airports) that "Ambient Music... must be as ignorable as it is interesting." I'm not sure that's always possible, but it's useful to have something to aspire to.

So here it is: VIR. I think this is a good album to listen to while you are doing other things. You can listen to this album while you're reading, or cooking, or doing laundry. You can also listen to this album when you're not doing anything, or when you're taking a nap, or even when you're staying home sick from work (though I certainly don't make any claims that there are any specific health benefits associated with listening to this album).

And remember: don't go to work when you're sick.

I finished 18 paintings in 2022

2022 was a very productive year for me as a painter. I finished 18 paintings in my Spacescapes, Lunar, and Natural Errors series. I'm looking forward to what 2023 will bring, creatively speaking. I'm hoping I will return to my writing with renewed energy in the coming year.
